Citizens are being asked for comments on new documents on High Speed Internet

The Smart Island Program published on Friday, September 15, on its website two documents on Internet connectivity in homes: Digital Equity Plan and Initial Proposal Volume 1 for input and comments from the general public.

The purpose is for people to be able to read and comment on plans, suggestions, changes and whether or not they agree with what the Broadband Program plans to implement.

“Your comments will be considered in this plan for updating, following an appropriate direction with the input of all citizens of Puerto Rico. In accordance with the Personal Identifying Information (PII) guidelines, all comments received will be published with the initial of the first name and last name, followed by the municipality,” explained the executive director of the program and assistant secretary for Innovation, Information, Data and Technology of the government of Puerto Rico, Enrique Völckers-nin.

The comment period is currently open until next Sunday, October 15. Citizens can visit the website at the following link: https://www.smartisland.pr.gov/peticion-de-comentarios. We encourage you to read both documents and leave your comments on any of them. At the moment, the documents are in English, but will soon be included in Spanish.

“Our goal is that all Puerto Ricans, regardless of their origin or location, have access to the resources and opportunities necessary to thrive in the digital world and fully participate in modern society,” concluded Völckers-Nin.

The Puerto Rico Broadband Program, better known as SmartIsland, focuses on developing a resilient, durable and evenly distributed broadband infrastructure. For additional details of the Puerto Rico Broadband Program, you can visit https https://www.smartisland.pr.gov.
